well, i can´t see your doubt: you´ve posted almost the answer. indeeed, setting the backup MX server with lower priority in this domain zone and ensuring that the list of virtual domains you need be backuped are rsync'ed in secondary MX's /var/qmail/control/rcpthosts file.
