Indeed. Being sheep for the sake of blindly following what the popular choice is now, isn't helping when we're using features from SF which Github doesn't have. That's the fundamental crux; the alternatives aren't there at the moment. This entire conversation is basically moot, given I've already outlined the tmux repository on Github can be used to do whatever you like. Submitting patches can be done using git-format-patch, just like a number of other projects do; git itself, for instance. So, given the above, what does moving gain us at the moment?
