Fair enough. I figured it was worth a try, though.

No—in addition to also not updating in sync with the system clock, it doesn't 
allow the user to change it's format: it's always %H:%M. Besides, I was looking 
for a solution that would give me a small, out-of-the-way clock, so I could 
just glance over and see the time while I work.
