Basically, for the LIBEVENT_LIBS flag, I was just doing
LIBEVENT_LIBS="/net/blahblah" what I needed to do was just
LIBEVENT_LIBS="-L/net/blahblah"
Now it configures, however, I get a lot of errors when I run make:
