As on tin - I'm using following nodejs code successfully in other environments 
- all but tmux work.

It doesn't like the escape code no matter what way it gets it - be it \033s, 
\x1b7, \x1bs, \u001bs...it doesn't matter, doesn't like it.  Even windows 
doesn't care - only tmux breaks on this.

    $ tmux -V
    tmux 1.7

(The line "test `i`" repeats every ten seconds, and I'd initially typed in 
"test 123 [enough spaces to get a line break] test123" at the beginning.)
