Hi So when you split the window and click on a pane nothing happens?
Can you kill run "tmux -Ltest -vvvvv" then do C-b : set -g mouse-select-pane, split the window once, click a few times to reproduce the problem, and send me the tmux-server-* log file? libevent 1.1 is way way too old for tmux or anything else so it might be worth trying a later version.
