Omnitty has a nifty feature where it can show you a snippet view of
the most recent output from each of it's windows.

It would be useful if tmux could provide a similar feature, where
there were ways it could show a small view of other ttys. I envision
that these small slivers might be possible to be displayed within a
window (e.g. the top or bottom lines), but not have all the features
of a window pane. Slivers would be read-only, and not have the extra
overhead of the decorations used with window panes (i.e. the line
characters), since the slivers are only one line. So you can follow
the latest output of another tty, but without having to have it be
proper pane of the current window. So it the tty wouldn't have to be
resized to be shown. It might make sense to just show the slivers
when there are certain status alert changes (bell, activity, or,
content).

Another place a one of these keyhole views might be useful is when
listing the different windows, such as with the choose-window command,
so you can actually get a small view of the current cursor line of all
the windows. Having this view would make it possible to see the
progress that been made in a window without having to switch to that
window directly.
