You're probably using TERM=xterm on a terminal which isn't xterm and
doesn't support the xterm method to set the X clipboard. Either use the
right TERM for gnome-terminal (TERM=gnome), or turn off the
set-clipboard option in tmux.

We should probably make this dependent on the xterm version now we have
it available...
