Hello everyone!

I have a layout as such:

-----------------------
| 0 | 1 |
| | |
|--------|-------------
| 2 | 3 |
| | |
|---------------------|
| 4 | 5 |
| | |
|---------------------|

Is it possible to merge pane's 1 and 3 together?

I don't understand. Panes 1 and 3 are separate terminals, each their own
shell. How would they ever be merged, even in the absence of tmux?
