My suggestion would be to upgrade to Ubuntu 10.04 per the instructions found here: https://help.ubuntu.com/community/LucidUpgrades If that's not possible, you can use a virtual machine to install a recent version of Ubuntu and use it with TinyOS. You might also be able to download an Ubuntu appliance from sites like http://virtualboximages.com/VirtualBox+Ubuntu+Client+VDIs.
