Hi Alex
I would very much love to see lots of new TW users. Everything that can help in that direction really. I do wonder though. Your suggestion seem to be rather time consuming to create. I would think that new users either know someone using TW, have heard a lot about exciting and endless possibilities or searched the net for possible solutions to a problem that they have. The first hurdle is to download empty, and do all the things you mention. Is it really that hard given the explanations given in words with icons?. Most people are able to open a document file in the relevant software, edit and save it. Know that a newly created document have to be given a title in order to save it. Is it the fact that TW is one single file using tiddlers, that explains it suddenly became difficult? Icons that should make it possible to guess at first...hint text to explain. Also I think that if above steps are so difficult for the person trying out TW, will they really keep using it? If they do they will certainly have to learn by daring to try out new things, reading about stuff at tiddlywiki.com or follow some of the links given, or come here to the group and ask. I think we can all do, whatever we can to help and make it easier for new users, *who ask us*! I think a user finding TW because he/she *wants* to know will succeed to some degree, there will always be more to learn and to try out. Why do I stress the words "who ask us" and "wants"? Every user loving TiddlyWiki, loves it so much that we cannot help trying to get others to use it too. That is fine up to a point. You can offer the horse water, but you can not force it to drink! I love TiddlyWiki and spend a lot of time using it for serious matters but absolutely also for the fun of it. I have told and shown my family and close friends. If they have shown just a little interest I have made special editions for them to use with everything in our own language. Tried to help them get a good start. Really never a success. As soon as I was not nearby they stopped using it. There could be a lot of reasons for that. I have reason to believe, that they were really never seriously interested just polite. I stopped trying. Each to his own. Now I do not speak of it, just use it. Then they started to complain about my using TW in words that had a jealous tone to it. I tried once more, of course they would like to use and love TW also. But no it was not that, it was the time I used enjoying TW, instead of doing what each of them thought I should do. Learning and using TW is an adventurous journey. I think you have to like that kind of journey to really get hooked. I do remember how it was to be a new user. Starting with TWc I had great help from Måns, and from Dave Giffords guide http://www.giffmex.org/twfortherestofus.html. When I started using TW5, I really did not do much until I found http://www.giffmex.org/tw5mall.htm, that started me out, and soon after I found Ton Gerners lovely guides. I have often read users in this group tell the same story. It is powerful when users create wikis, do stuff and tell how they accomplished it.
