hey Slip list, how's it going? just wanted to rant about one of my favorite recordings - 3/3/01 Cicero's, St. Louis.
unfortunately, i've only found it in mp3 format, so i've been reluctant to spread it around. another thing is that the recording i have doesn't quite match up with SlipBase - i don't have Cumulus on mine (also missing the encore, i think). nontheless, it's an awesome show, and i use it often to "break in" Slip newbies. to save you the trouble of searching through SlipBase, here's SlipBase's set list: 03/03/2001: Cicero's: St. Louis, MO Set I: Catacea > Invocation > Co-op City, Johnny's Tune, Pictures of Callisto, (Take A) Beetle to the Badlands Set II: The Lucky Dragon, A Crack in the Sundial, Don't Foil the Mohel > Marc jam > Afro/French tune tease > Cumulus > Afro/French tune > Cumulus*, Rhythm-a-ning > Dogs on Bikes > native american tune tease > Dogs Encore: Just a Closer Walk with Thee>Funky Chicken tease > Walk Notes: *Gibson hollow body ] the whole first set is killer - Co-op city is awesomely rhythm-driven, insane Johnny's tune, and a really beautiful Calysto. i've listened to this show for years, but only recently realized a couple special things. "Torque" is sandwiched inside "Don't Foil" - didn't really know Torque until i downloaded it off the website. pretty awesome. another sandwich - Jumby is sandwiched inside Dogs on Bikes (i'm guessing denoted by "native american tune tease" in the above setlist). first time i realized that, it blew my mind!!! according to SlipBase, the first time Jumby was played was at 8/3/02 Bethel Farm (almost a year and a half later!). i don't know if this one at Cicero's would be considered a bona fide Jumby, but damn it's been in BAM's heads for a long time. so, it'd be much appreciated if anyone has a FULL version in SHN/WAV format - we could set up a trade. i'd spread that around like wildfire (hope that didn't offend any SoCal people). i myself recently moved to the Bay Area (lucky me - got to catch BAM half a dozen times in the last couple months). just got my CD burner, now i just gotta organize my collection. so be on the lookout for offers to the list (with the list activity the way it is, i'm sure you won't have to sift through a crapload of messages). sweet cans, Dennis --------------------------------------- ** How do you enjoy the Pleasant Presence of the Present Tense? ** Web archive at http://email.theslip.net ** To unsubscribe: Send an e-mail to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with the text 'signoff theslip' in the body of the message
