Greetings Slip fans.
The boys returned to Seattle in style this weekend. Seems like we've been talking about having the Slip play Bumbershoot since they first passed through in '99. This year became 'that year' as it were. The Bumbershoot festival is one of the country's 5 largest music festivals and it's a ridiculous display of parades, dancers, theater, perfromanc art, drumming crafts and of course, tons and tons of live music. Friday is usually the best day to go as its less crowded and noticeably more relaxed than the days that follow.
The slip truly continue to push their sound, and signal processing has become an increasingly important part of the experience. From Brad's inventive looping to Andrew's new drum effect and humman-beat-box-jamman they boys contine to 'push the envelope.' And damn I love them for it. The highlight of the show for me was the December's Children. An awesome tune with the boys taking a page out of Built to Spill's songbook and then taking that one step further in the live environment. Who could ask for anything more?
And if you do ask for more, the new CD: ALIVELECTIC absolutely kicks ass. I've been listening to it non-stop since I picked it up.
Wish I could have seen Portland, but the Bumbershoot festival was too much to miss. Hope you all are tearing it up to the south!
