During the last few cycles of updates, I keep getting the same hyphenation problems: German hyphenation patterns are working (i.e. in the fmt etc.) before the update. Updating (F16 with texlive repo) texlive disables them: This is pdfTeX, Version 3.1415926-2.3-1.40.12 (TeX Live 2011) restricted \write18 enabled. entering extended mode (./m.tex LaTeX2e <2011/06/27> Babel <v3.8m> and hyphenation patterns for english, dumylang, nohyphenation, lo aded. ... After the reinstall dance rpm -e texlive-hyphen-german texlive-german;yum install texlive-hyphen-german texlive-german they work again: This is pdfTeX, Version 3.1415926-2.3-1.40.12 (TeX Live 2011) restricted \write18 enabled. entering extended mode (./m.tex LaTeX2e <2011/06/27> Babel <v3.8m> and hyphenation patterns for english, dumylang, nohyphenation, ge rman, ngerman, swissgerman, loaded. So some scripts (fmt rebuild) must have been triggered in the wrong order, i.e. in a state when there were no german patterns (?).
