btw, thank you adam for voting against discarding this bug as a blocker.
i'd say that *knowing* that an operating system will destroy existing data
on certain conditions and still declaring it Alpha GOLD, it's far from
reasonable expectations. my understanding is that, when we say that an OS
*may* destroy data is like saying that "We have not seen this ever but,
since it's alpha it still may happen."

but maybe it's just me that is disconnected from reality :)
