I had an issue with apache crashing and leaving behind core files and taking up a lot of space in /tmp. I didn't notice this before the switch over to /tmp on tmpfs. And afterwards I was having trouble figuring out where the extra space was being used since the /tmp fs hid the /tmp directory.

It might be nice to clean up /tmp before overlaying it on boot or maybe just outputing a log message of some sort if there is stuff in /tmp before doing the overlay.
