Thanks for pointing this out, and also for your detailed post. :) It
looks like the Inspiron is not for me - my other requirement will be
modem usage, and the Inspiron 2100 has a Winmodem and no PCMCIA slot.
I'm reluctant to buy an HP machine based on past experiences with them,
and the Casio FIVA (which also looked cool) has a Winmodem, too. :P
The VAIO does have a PCMCIA slot on the R505.
So I'm down to the Vaio or something else that someone mentioned in the
previous thread, a "Tuxtop": http://www.tuxtops.com. Very competitively
priced, and I *know* it will work with Linux! Thanks all...
