I don't know if you have gotten an answer to this yet but since I
hadn't seen anything about this I though I would give you what little I
know.
If you are running energy saver mode and that is what is causing your
problems you can turn this off in the Control Center under power
management and energy. (this is in KDE)
If your problem is with the apm then you have to modify the kernel and I
don't know how to help you there. (My Husband got it working great on
our Compaq laptop in SusE )
