This gains you nothing over logging out and logging back in as root in
this case (except that it runs slightly slower because of the encryption
involved). The solution Telsa proposed allows graphical applications to
be run, since everything is on the local machine.

Again, this seems like overkill for the problem at hand, since the
question was asking about running things on the local machine.
