You either need to make a /boot partition in the first 8 GB of the drive, or
upgrade to the latest version of LILO.

Subject: [techtalk] Harddrive problems with Lilo

I'm getting a disk geometry problem with Lilo. I can't update my Linux
configuration. I tried Lilo's -l switch and installed the boot sector in my
MBR but when my machine booted up it only displayed "LI". I have a 30GB hard
drive. It is partitioned into 133MB (Swap partition), 8GB Fat32, 8GB Fat 32,
5.25GB Ext2, 8GB Fat32. (Windows 98 is on the first and Windows 2000 is on
the last partition - 8GB (in the middle) is for apps and CDwriting files).
This harddrive has alot of cylinders. I had trouble getting the BIOS to
recognize it. Finally setting the settings to Auto allowed it to be seen.
But I still have trouble with other utilities. How do I fix the Lilo
problem? Thanks
