hi all

i've been lurking for a while now...i've been very busy with my summer
internship and had some problems with my university mail server...my password
expired and i had to resort to some rather exreme measures to get my mail
working again.

i recently switched distros...i'm running mandrake 7.0 on a HP pavilion 4535.
i am extremely happy with mandrake, but yet again, i'm having problems with my
video card. i used to run RH 6.0, which did not support the intel i810
chipset. thus, i was forced to suffer with a generic VGA screen, which is
functional, but doesn't help me in convincing people that linux is great. =)
unfortunately, my problems have continued with mandrake.

with mandrake i'm running XFree86 3.3.6, and i downloaded the intel-supplied
rpms, which appear to be for use with 3.3.5, but i keep getting error
messages. i know that mandrake 7.1 is fully supported out-of-the-box for i810
chipsets, but i'd sort of like to make my video card work without having to
upgrade...i'm not at school, and therefore i have no T3 line with which to
download...all i know is i'm getting tired of 8 bit color and a 640x480
resolution!

if anyone can help me out a bit, i'd appreciate it. on the other hand, if
fixing it is more trouble than it's worth, i'll just bite the bullet and
upgrade it.

thanks

Katie
