From reading the docs, I know that lilo can't load
the second stage boot loader, and the error code of 00 seems to point to a
geometry problem of the hd? When I use a boot disk to run e2fsck /dev/hda2
(linux /), I get the mesg: Filesystem has unsupported features while trying to
open /dev/hda2. The superblock could not be read or does not describe a correct
ext2 filesystem.... same message for all other linux partitions (native,
non-swap). I can't mount these partitions either. (I mainly tried
the / one).
This HD has a dos partition on hda1, lilo (if I
remember correctly) was installed on MBR.
So does this sound like a lilo problem that can be corrected by removing/reinstalling lilo, or something else worse?

I'm a newbie at this, I figure I could wipe out the
HD and start fresh since it's not a production box, but that also means I would never learn how to fix it. I
don't know what's the best way to approach this, reinstall lilo? kernel? dd
something from my other box? Please advise.
more info: I'm running RH6.2 on 10G HD on PC, have several boot disks of RH and other distro lying around (does it matter that they have 2.0.x kernels?), another linux box w/ debian and up-to-date kernel, T-1 connection. This problem stemmed from a proper shutdown/reboot sometime ago, the shutdown was fine, boot up got screwed.
