There is a command called date to change the system date and time.
date MMDDhhmmYYYY.ss    (as root)     (all digits, month, day, hour, minute, year etc)

Hey, a neat command to remember when searching for how linux does something, is 
"apropos".

You can type    apropos date     and get a list of commands that are related to date.
