Hello, I'd like to request lxc be granted an MRE for the 1.0.x series which we'll be shipping with Ubuntu 14.04 LTS.
LXC 1.0 is the first production-ready release of LXC which upstream intends to support for the duration of the Ubuntu 14.04 cycle with somewhat frequent (no strict schedule) bugfix only point releases. My goal as one of the usual packagers for lxc in Ubuntu is to simply push those upstream bugfix releases to our 14.04 users rather than cherry-pick individual fixes (which has been our policy for the past few releases). As we've done in the past, the version in 14.04 will then be backported in <series>-backports to all previous Ubuntu releases starting with 12.04. Our packaging has been kept in a way that we can easily do no change backport all the way to 12.04. Example of the exsting two point releases which we've been pushing to trusty as bugfix-only releases post-Feature Freeze can be found at: https://linuxcontainers.org/news A third point-release will probably be tagged later this week to include a few updates to our apparmor profiles that are needed for 14.04 (due to an apparmor parser change). LXC upstream does full automated test runs on amd64, i386 and armhf for every commit to both the master and stable-1.0 branch. We also do test builds and test runs using clang, push daily builds to coverity for static code analysis and do automated cross-builds for Android. The upstream Jenkins server is at: https://jenkins.linuxcontainers.org The Ubuntu package itself is just a clean, unpatched version of upstream LXC with pretty much all features enabled (only the lua bindings are disabled due to a missing dependency in Ubuntu). Seeing the very large amount of SRUs we've been doing in the past few releases, it's my belief that an MRE will save a lot of time to Serge and I as well as the SRU team by simplifying the amount of documentation required for our updates. -- Stéphane Graber Ubuntu developer http://www.ubuntu.com
