For a non-pager/beeper follow-up...

Management here usually arranges for a cook-out lunch for Sysadmin Day ("catered" by a local grocery store or local caterer), with burgers, brats, chips, potato salad, cookies, pop (or soda, for those so inclined), etc. We have it outside near our building, so location is convenient for those working at the office (or inclined to come in that day) but if somebody's beeper does go off, they're close to their desk. And (in the northern hemisphere), it's usually the right weather for grilling outside...

Hi Conrad,

I think the easiest and best way to show your appreciation is to take your
sysadmins out to lunch and tell them that you appreciate them. Ask their
opinions on how things are going, listen to what they say and consider it,
even if you can't ultimately take their suggestions.

If there are enough teams that you can't take them all to lunch, just sending
an email to remind them that you know they exist and appreciate what they do,
then offer to listen to their concerns or suggestions. Everyone wants to know
that they're valued.

    Hi,

Apparently is sysadmin appreciation day on the last friday of july.
    according to wikipedia[1]:
"The holiday has been recognized and promoted by many IT professional
organizations, the League of Professional System Administrators and
    SAGE/USENIX.[6]"

Since I want to honour several teams of sysadmins, is there any kind of
    etiquette/tradition I should know about?
How do you (if at all) go about sysadmin appreciation day?
