In my current job I'm using Rackwise for tracking lab inventory. It was
here when I arrived and so that's what I'm supposed to use.
For those that haven't used it, the interface is through a Visio addon,
which is handy for making small numbers of changes. It's also possible to
export and import through Excel and generate custom reports via the report
tool that talks to SQL Server. Obviously it is extremely Microsoft
centric, and I'm much more of a unix kind of guy.
So, here's my problem. I would like to be able to make automatic
(scripted) queries into Rackwise to look up information such as location
to hand back to the monitoring system when something breaks. I would also
like to be able to update information programatically, such as MAC & IP
addresses. I also have some other use cases where I really need to be
able to script access.
I'm going through the documentation right now to learn the product better,
but I thought I would see if anyone here can point me at some good
resources. My online searches have just turned nothing but a bunch of
press releases on Rackwise and their users.
Suggestions?

It's not what I know that counts.
It's what I can remember in time to use.
