Just a quick question on rsync while it's being discussed... Is using rsync with the --delete and --force SOURCE/ DEST/ the equivalent as robocopy /MIR /SEC ?  Being doing lots of robocopy mirrors for our windows systems lately and was wondering what the equivalent for our Linux systems would be?

Thanks very much.

If a bulk of files being transferred are text files, the -z flag does make a difference. Especially when the transfer takes place over low-bandwidth links, the compression can help speed up the transfer. It doesn't make much sense for transferring binaries ithough.

Great tip, unix_fan.

While we¹re on the subject, what about -z and -h tags. Is compression
worth doing during the transfer or does it put unnecessary load on the
Œrsync¹er, so to speak?
