We always had to sacrifice a cat and sprinkle the blood on the back of each
new server we put in the data center... oops, it wasn't a Google data center :)

Yep, some time it was only done 'virtually', but in fact we never seemed to put
another server in a rack without 'blood sacrifice' by one of the techs
working on
the install/build.  (Normally a nick on an arm, or blood finger due to
sharp edges
on the inside of servers... We mainly use Dell and IBM servers).
