What type of tapes have the data? (I see that Brett has just asked the same question). I have trashed most, if not all, of my old tape drives but it is possible that one still lingers somewhere. Knowing what type of tape would tell me if it is worth looking for a drive. I would not expect any trickery with the SCO backups, even though they did do a number of "bad things" license-wise over the years.
