I'm investigating using WBEM-HTTPS to monitor VMware ESXi servers,
since we used to monitor ESX hosts using an agent that lived in the
service console.

It seems like there was a lot of interest in CIM/WBEM a few years
ago which gradually died down, perhaps due to the complexity and
learning curve (?). I'm conflicted because it seems like a reasonably
effective way to gather information from VMware and the management
agents HP provides to use for monitoring, but most of the tools I'm
finding haven't been updated in years and there's not much new
development going on.

  My questions are:

  1) Is anyone aware of a WBEM client module for Perl? My life would
be so much easier if there was one. A search on CPAN only resulted in
a module which is specific to Microsoft WMI.

  2) Do you have any opinions or insight into whether CIM and WBEM are
still worth learning, or is it just a technology that never caught on?

  Thanks; -- Brian
