How about if the IEngineService interface had a createCallback(IRequestCycle) method? Would that help?

With these both mecanisms, I wouldn't need to write any kind of ICallback in my app. The state doesn't need to be exact at all but right now, taking care of page properties has to be done 100% manually and it generates a fair chunk of ugly code.
