Mike, Just a couple days ago there was talk on this list about using JCatcha (http://jcaptcha.sourceforge.net/) as a Tapestry component.
I think it's being used in the OpenDating project (http://www.opendating.org/), so you might want to check the source. If you register there you'll see it in use after you hit "Continue" (on the second registration page).
