Newbie: Play (client side) and log (server side) when clicked on a link?

Hi there,
 
 I am having problem with the GenericLink component, which is great for playing 
sound clips (client side) but doesn't have a listener to notify and log the 
user's action. I have tried the DirectLink, which logged but didn't play, doh.
 
 Is there a way one of you guys know?
