That's more or less exactly what I'm doing, actually. My 'menus' take
the form of eclipse-like 'perspectives', but same idea. Screens are
dynamically extended by plug-ins also. Unfortunately this project is
for a client however, so I won't be able to share any of the core
code itself. The module discussed below is 'fair game', though, which
should get you a significant chunk of the way there.
