Korbinian, Sitemesh is excellent and it's already used by Equinox.
With Sitemesh there is no configuration file that you need to constantly add to each time a new page is added to the site. If I recall, there are only 3 files that need to be setup and one of the is simply adding a servlet filter to web.xml.
