Just a wild guess, but I've read it somewhere before: you might consider 
installing (or even just copying, as a test) tomcat in a directory 
without spaces.
I've had some problems of my own becouse of case and spaces before, but 
I can't recollect how related to the tomcat install dir it was. Anyway, 
I have a \java directory inside of which I have \java\java-1.5.0 and 
\java\tomcat-5.5.7.
