Yes you can use the old backup to restore the phone and it should come back up
talking.

Subject: [Talks] n86 backup

If I backed up my N86 to my memmory card several months ago and I have not
installed any new programs since then could I use the backup to restore the
phone? And, will talks come up speaking when the restore completes? Or, do I
have to use the method discussed previously and flash the N86?
