Hi This is me who inquired about Nokia N8.
Sorry to reply late to you. Actually I am so new to the techie world outside. The only option I knew was only Nokia, which allows Talks to be installed for the easy use of visually impaired persons. Moreover I thought that the other Phones may be of a great burden to visually impaired people because if Talks itself is not fully accessible, then it will be tough for the other phones. So, due to lack of knowledge, I just went for this device. Well, if you ask me about my use of this N8, actually I want to use it to the maximum, meaning all the applications available including internet, recorder, dictionary, etc. In fact everything which a sighted people would use. Hey friend, actually I have explored this device on my own, & it seems that it is not that much difficult to understand may be I will need few more days with your assistance. But if you can help me in this new problem that I have found it will be of great help for me. The problem is: How can I take my finger directly to the shortcut I have created on the screen? Actually I have created Shortcut for applications like recorder, dictionary, file, contact, music player, & calculator, but when it comes to hitting directly on the particular icon i want, I can never do so. Instead my fingers will hit some unwanted icons. E.g., if i want to go directly to music player, my finger will land up on contact or recorder, etc., So can you give me some tips on how to make this home screen more accessible & effective for me? Another thing also, I want to delete all the default icons like maps, etc., which were there since the time I bought it. The presence of these icons are troublesome as i don't use them at all as for now. Like now travelling on a bus in to Dublin city! You can set up e-mail through messaging and if you have more than one e-mail account, a Nokia phone seems to take up to 6 accounts. I can only describe the settings as you would for Outlook Express or Outlook. The wizard is very helpful and does most of it for you. Go to Menu, arrow to Office and select that. Arrow down until you come to mail and select. You should have an option to create new mailbox. Select, see from there how you go and follow the on-screen instructions. This is for pop3. G mail accounts need a little more explaining about the set-up. When you are done. You access viamessaging where you arrow to the mail account. If you have wi-fi at home then you can access Internet and mail through it. It is a case of setting up an access point where you enter your wi-fu key, -----Original Message----- From: "Hicks Steven (CORNWALL IT SERVICES)" Sent: 22/08/2013, 8:06 AM To: "Talks@TalksUsers.COM" Subject: [Talks] Nokia N95 And The Internet Hello friends, Is anyone able to help me with a few quick tips on how to use my Nokia N95 with the internet? I have 500mg free web use and up till now, I have not tried it but I had just as well use it, even if it is just to check my email on the web. I can go to web pages etc but reading them is where it is not happening. I am thinking that the number keys on the phone actually have functions like go to the top of the page etc? Do you just press a key sequence to read the entire page and other key sequences to go to links etc? Any help would be much appreciated, even if you can just point me to the manual, I can't remember reading anything about it the last time I took a look. Take care all. **************************************************************************** **************************************** This message may contain confidential information. Hope I will be able to contribute some of my knowledge to the list, though I myself do not know much. As for now, let me request anyone of you out there to help me out in solving few of my problems. Just few days back i bought a Nokia N8, which is a touch screen device & had installed the latest talks. But you know what? I found myself to have ran out of patience in exploring it due to the fact that this is my first touch screen mobile, + I am a totally visually impaired person & thus cannot identify anything on the screen, + none of my sighted friends are willing to help me out, + I am staying far, far away from my parents who would have tried helping me out in this issue. But till now, I feel that my possession of this device is a waste. So, before anything happens, can any1 of you send me some write ups or manual containing hints on how to use talks with N8? Or else, if you want me to mention few particular areas where i exactly face problems then I will do so on request. I have a high hope that after a few days from now, I will be able to use this device & not to be in my bag simply, haha. Please, please, please, please, help. Thanks friends in advance. Why did you choose this form of touch screen when there are so many other softwares and phones that are touch screen but not with Talks. There is a chapter in the Talks manual which should be helpful but I cannot recall the chapter number. You might consider a bluetooth keyboard if you are writing long e-mails or doing a lot of reading on-line. With the virtual keyboard on the touch screen, you can opt for the qwerty style or the mumeric. I really think the numeric would be preferable. Even my niece who is fully sighted and uses N8 prefers the numeric keyboard. What uses are you going to put the phone to? Example making and receiving calls only or for e-mail and Internet also? There is an app which you could purchase or maybe it is incorporated in the software called Vlingo, you can then use your voice to bring up someone's telephone number and call them but to do this you cannot have multiple numbers for that person all together under the one name. You do not tell us if you have ever used Talks before or if you are coming to it totally new. There is a standby screen and you can have a number of these screens where you can have all the popular apps that you use. I have an E6 which has touch screen but in addition a qwerty keyboard. You may want to find out if you can lock your screen in portrait or landscape. There is a certain amount of difficulty where you call a number and from there you have to keep selecting other numeric options. If it is a regular number and you know the sequence of numbers to press then this configuration can be stored. Let us know if you are familiar with the soft keys 1 - 5 on a touch screen. Soft keys 3 - 5 are only present in certain situations while soft keys 1 and 2 are always present and at the bottom left and right of the screen respectively. -----Original Message----- From: "isabella" Sent: 23/08/2013, 8:40 AM To: talks@talksusers.com Subject: [Talks] help please Hi every1 I am new to this mailing list.
