I am happy to report the disaster has been fixed. I definitely looked at
this process as a learning experience. I learned a lot about the N86 and
how it enteracts with the PC and the phone itself. Thanks for the help
and patience during this trial.

Well in that case, there is no one best way! You only have one option
in order to get them back into the phones internal database. Basically
just do what you already ahve done! When you have no more contacts in
the database! Look through the option and I think you will then be
able to spot the one that allows you to copy from business card files
and then will give you the options to select what memory you need to
restore from. In some cases you need to just try things in order to
find out what needs to be done.

Great thanks for the info. now, that I have the contacts fixed on the
memory card when I mark all and delete the phone contacts what's the
best method to transfer the contacts from the memory card back to the
phone?

Probably should add the reason all those contacts (2612) got on the
memory card because right after I performed the sync I did a backup
of the phone to the memory card. But like I said the memory card
has been cleaned up. So, again where are these original (2612)
contacts stored because I did not see them in E mass storage other
folder under contacts. When I start copying contacts I guess I
should be copying them to a specific folder such as the e mass
memory others contacts folder. Is this right or wrong?

No they probably will be on the 8GB internal drive. But either
way, they will be in the Other folder and then the Contacts folder.

Ok got it right this time. If I connect the phone to the PC and
choose mass storage should the contacts I've copied be in the
"other" folder on the memory card?

You did everything correct! If you would have arrowed down one
more time after pressing select after having everything marked,
you would have seen Copy business card or something like that.
It is the last option of the 4 things that come up.

I did the folowing:
1. brought up contacts
2. Marked all
3. Pressed select and arrowed down to copy contacts to, and the
only option is sim memory (one of one)

No! That isn't what you want to change. If you want to copy
them all to the memory card, you need to first mark all of
them. Then rpess select again and you will be giving a list of
fewer options of what you can do with the marked items. One of
them is either Save/Copy/Backup I don't recdall for sure what
the items is called. Then when you select that item; You will
be given the option to select other memory and then you will
be given the option to select Mass storage or memory card.
Only at that piont things will be copyed to the place that you
select.

All the suggestions are great ideas. However, when I look at
settings under contacts on my N86 and view default saving
memory, it says phone memory one of one. Hitting softkey one
or the select key I get returned to the settings menu. I
thought a while back this had something to do with my bad
memory card but I recently put a new one in my N86 and I
still am not able to see the memory card in this specific area.

Well late now! But you can configure the Sinc process on the
Nokia PC Suite to tell it how to sinc the information. But I
would agree one of the best ways is to mark all, copy to
memory card and then go and clean up the contacts on the
memory card. Then go back into the phone Mark all contacts
in the contact list, Press clear and delete them. Then press
Option and then restore them from memory card after you have
cleaned them up.
But it would also be as fast to just clean them up on the
phone. Arrow to the one to delete, press Clear and followed
by Yes. After all, you will need to do the same thing even
using the computer. You would need to arrow to the contact,
press delete and then confirm it.
However it is your call.

I thought I would be able to view the contacts through
Nokia PC Suite v7.1 but the contacts under the file menu
does not work. When it brings up the communication center
the program crashes. Do either later or earlier versions of
Nokia PC suite work better than V7.1? On 6/22/2013 7:10 AM,

Hi,
Ooh ouch! That's not nice. As far as I know you can't but
just a thought, If you have the contacts stored on the
micro SD card you can then access them easier
. That's not much help in this instance though so as far
as I know, there's mo quick fix.
It happened to me too.
Take care,
Cokes.

Using PC suite and my N86 I did a sync of my contacts. I
thought that only the info from my phone was being synced
with Outlook. Well, to my horrified discovery the sync
process not only sent my N86 contacts to PC suite it also
sent my outlook addresses to my N86. So instead of having
225 contacts on my N86 I now have 2612 entries. (yikes!)
I have been going threw the unwanted contacts
individually, but is there a fasster way to perform this
task? Is it possible to connect the phone to the PC and
bring up the contacts stored on the phone so I can just
hit the delete key on the computer to rid myself of the
unwanted contacts faster?
