OK! In this case I know what is going on. If you keep on pressing keys and
don't wait for 30 seconds or so, the phone will continue working. What has
happend is he has changed the auto lock function so the phone locks after 15
to 30 seconds. Then when the phone locks, it looks like is stopped speaking.
However if you press lets say Up arrow and then press Talks followed by
Select I bet it will say it is locked when it stops speaking.
In any case you said you had a 72. This isn't a valid Nokia phone. There are
two models that end in 72. So which one do you have? The N72 or the E72.
This makes a big difference. One has a standard number pad while the other
has a Alpha qwerty keyboard on it.
In either case, you need to go into the Setting and change the auto lock
function of the phone.
You do not need to re-install Talks.

If Talks has been corrupted then the best thing to do is
remove all the talks files from the phone then reboot the
phone then reinstall talks and your tts then reboot the
phone. If you don't have another screen reader installed on
the phone then you will probably need sighted assistance in
removing talks. Just as a note here you could install a demo
of the other screen reader as an aid.

You can put Talks back. If Talks is in the name of your
friend, you
can, I think pay for a Talks transfer licence but that
would cost you
probably as much as getting Talks yourself. You can run
Talks from
the memory card however.
I would advise to have Talks on the phone memory. If
you
are doing
this for your friend for example and he/she is keeping
the
phone and
going to continue using it, then if it is Talks Premium
you can go in
to the Talks Application, Press soft key one for options
and arrow up
or down, whatever until you get to Registration. Here a
sub-menu will
open up when you select Registration. Now there is a
manual option.
Select that and arrow down the edit boxes.
You will find the licence code for Talks. Make a note
of
it and then
when you reinstall Talks, you can do a manual
registration. I am not
sure how this works if it is Talks standard from
Vodafone.
