Figured out something today! This semes to work on 3rd Edition phones. I
can't speak for other phone models like the C5 and E7/E6/N8 running Anna or
Belle. But this does workon the N82, N86, N95* models and probably will work
for other 3rd Edition models like the E71, E72, E73 etc...
How to stop the words of Bars and Bar from being spoken when checking the
status of your phone. This will only effect what Talks says when you do a
Talks followed by SoftKey2. As a example today you hear the following.
Network 7 bars AT&T Battery 1 bar.
By doing the below you will hear the following.
Network 7 AT&T Battery 1.
Instructions on how to do the above.
1. Tap the power Button. This will bring up the power options menu.
2. Now press Talks followed by a long press of SoftKey1. This will cause the
Talks setting to start however it will not be in the forground. So you will
need to wait a second or two before continuing.
3. Now press SoftKey2 to exit the power options screen. This will now take
you to the Talks Settings.
4. Arrow over to the dictionary tab.
5. Press options.
6. Arrow to add and press select.
7. type in the word Bars with a s at the end of it.
8. Arrow down to replace with and leave it blank.
9. Arrow down to application it will say Global.
10. Press Right arrow to change it. It will say something like akncapserver.
11. Press SoftKey2 to exit and answer YES to save it.
12. Now repete Steps 5 through 11 to add the word Bar without the S at the
end.
When done saving the word Bar to the dictionary! Now press SoftKey2 to exit
the Talks settings. Now try doing your Talks followed by SoftKey2 and see
what happens! This will only effect the status and no other screens. This
should also take care of the question that Mr. Long had the other day on how
to change the word Home to Straight Talk only for the reading of the status.
