Jen, I also get the message Eleanor is describing any time I want to connect to anything using WiFi, primarily email. It just comes up automatically, I select my network and I'm off to the races. I have the same phone as you, i.e. whichever model Rogers was offering in that Canadian promotion.

In terms of a wi-fi you will set an access point. Within settings there should be some setting which allows you to look for LAN Local Area Networks and it should pick yours up.
