Yes the left and right arrows should work if the volume buttons do not. Have you tried turning off and on your phone after you have installed the version of Talks that you are running. Remember if you didn't install 5.20.3 you do not have the latest version. Also do you have Talks set to mute while on a call or not? Lastly did you check to see if you are on the screen where it shows who you are talking to? Another words not in some other program like the music player.
