hi,
below is my personal experience.

i dont think this consider defect on the phone memory, on my experience with
symbian nokia phones since 2004, this can happen even
if the phone is brand new. the reason behind this is, when nokia load in the
firmware for the phone, it will leave some temp files
in the phone memory. so these temp files will cost the phone memory lesser.

the model that always happen for me is 5320, when the phone still new, the
phone memory is only 40MB and after i hard format the
phone, it have 120MB.

Subject: [Talks] One possible defect in Phone memory

Hi friends, I learned something I think can be useful for other cell phone
users.
My nokia n81 8gb has 25 mega bytes phone memory. I had few applications
installed in it but nokia's internal system showed I had
only 3 mb free. Nokia's support asked me to format the phone memory and so I
gained 17 mb free in the phone memory. So it seems to
have a bug in n81 8gb and maybe other models. It works like there is invisible
trash in the memory and nokia should be able to clean
it without formatting all the memory and loosing everything we have in there.
They should have kind of a phone memory cleaner that
scans defective data and keep useful things we have in there.
I've had this trash in the phone memory for the last two years without knowing
it.
So it can be useful for some listers to check how much should be the free
memory.
Thanks for all the hard work you've done to help me solve all the problems I've
had in the last weeks.
Kind regards, Paulo
