Chris, and others, I have the same problem as Chris. It started after I tried to set up Google Mail on my N86. I gave up using Google Mail because I couldn't get it to work properly. As far as I remember (it's a while ago now), I was able to receive messages but I got the message that the SMTP setting wasn't right. I decided that somehow I hadn't done my settings properly, but gave up on it as I didn't really need the Gmail account and I couldn't work out what was wrong with my settings. I had the suspicion the Gmail puts the outgoing messages in a different place on the phone that I couldn't find.
Hearing Chris's problem has made me curious again. I would be interested if someone can come up with an explanation/solution.
