The software setting was already "all". I had some real speak voices installed rs-jill and rs-tom and vcm_samantha etc. I uninstalled those and retried installing talks. This time the installation succeeded. I am not sure if this is a known issue or just some wierd behaviour on my phone.

I ask because when I went to update mine I had a similar problem then I tried again with no success. Finally I checked the date (as I do not use that facility) and it was 1 February 2011 and the release was 17 February 2011.
