This isn't for the free one that I know of. This is for 3.01 and not 3.03 or
3.04 which are the free ones. The later firmware for the N82 comes with 3.01
already built into it I think. So if you are looking for the free OVI maps,
this isn't it and like I said will not work on the N82, N95* models, I can
see this is the case for other Symbian 9.2 phones and also will not work on
Symbian 9.1 phones either. So if you ahve the N82 and you are wanting the
FREE OVI maps on the N82 you are out of luck as far as I can tell.

and this is for only OVI 3.0. The thread pertains to Nokia N82. I would
advise anyone who wishes to perform these tasks, to proceed at there own

It's a common problem with several Nokia S60 devices when updating native
Nokia Maps
built-into the native firmware to Ovi Maps 3.
Here's the only procedure to make it work:
1. First of all, use a File manager to delete the folder called cities
from
your
memory card root; also delete the file named qf found in root.
2. Perform a full backup on internal phone memory using Backup/Restore
module from
Nokia PC Suite.
3. Perform a hard reset on the device using the well-known method: while
the
device
is turned off, press and hold these 3 keys: green (call), * (asterisk) and
3
(three)
and power on the device. Do not release these 3 keys until the animated
logo
(hands)
is shown.
4. Now you need to launch the Nokia Maps application, then after it loads
completely
you can exit from the app; by doing this, cities folder and qf file will
be
restored
on memory card' root.
4. Now install/update your device with the latest Maps application using
Setup_Nokia_Maps_Updater_1.0.10.exe
or using the *.sis package already owned by you.
5. Also you may want to install you favourite country maps and voices for
guidance
using Nokia Map Loader.
6. Restore your data from the prevoius backup file using Nokia PC Suite.

Nope OVI mass isn't available for the n82 or other Symbian 9.2 devices.
So
the 3.3 version will not work. The n79 is a 9.3 device.

V3.4 has a bug in that it won't start on my N86. This is apparently
something Nokia are well aware of and are working on. V3.3 works fine
though, so should also work on your N82. V3.6 is currently only
available
for touch screen devices.
I'll have a look around, but you might also try the Nokia Beta Labs
site.
