Hi Foundation, We have been informed today that a user registred as "paddiloo" (http://www.openstreetmap.org/user/paddiloo) is modifying many "place" nodes in France with a bot.
After a first analysis , it seems that a bot is running through all geolocalized french places present in fr.wikipedia.org site (villages, towns) (tag created_by = osm_wiki_grab_fr 0.1a in changesets e.g. here http://www.openstreetmap.org/browse/changeset/2425286). The bot is creating missing villages/towns but also moving existing ones to the coordinates visible on wikipedia. It's also adding a link to the wikipedia page name (e.g. wikipedia:fr = Saint-Urbain_%28Finist%C3%A8re%29) The problem is not the link to wikipedia but the fact that the place coordinates used in wikipedia are coming from the IGN, the french equivalent to OS. I know this information because I contacted the person how created the place template in fr.wikipedia.org almost two years ago. En fait les données ont été récupérés sur l'IGN avec un programme que j'ai fait et complété à la main lorsque le programme n'arrivait pas à déterminer les homonymies ou nom différents de ceux de l'INSEE. Je ne sais pas si les données peuvent être réellement libre de droit lorsqu'elles sont regroupés dans un seul fichier il faudrait s'en référer à l'IGN. Since the bot is running intensively now, I urgently request the foundation to block this user contributions or at least, suspend his uploads until we find a solution.
