while mapping a shop for dog supplies (shop=pets), I checked the wiki

pets=*...
Wow. The tags pet=* and pets=* definitely need better documentation due
to their quite different use.
The meaning of pet=* (you can see for yourself:
https://overpass-turbo.eu/s/1sjE) is clear enough, but the keys are
really easy to mix up (note that you already mixed up shop=pets and
shop=pet in your message).
So, are we missing a page describing the type of animals a shop sells
or sells accessories for?
Yeah, this calls for better documentation. The meaning of the tags is
pretty clear though, so that shouldn't be too hard.
Are we just gonna assume people will know what the English word for
the pet they want to tag is?
Sure. `cat`, `fish`, and `dog` are pretty basic vocabulary well within
reach of, I would estimate, at least 99.5% of mappers. Documenting the
most common values won't hurt, but while there will be some mappers who
have no English proficiency at all, it is doubtful that documentation
translation efforts will ever reach as far as the values of pet=* for
more than a handful of languages — if that. You could implement a list
of the most common values for pet=* for the shop=pet preset in ID, that
could help.
