are these guaranteed to be accessible? Are they part of the residential
properties, or public space (by property not accessibility) between the
properties?
If they are part of the residential parcel, you could see them as kind of
gardens (within the residential landuse), if they are public property you
could distinguish the intensively maintained (garden and parks) from the
grass areas and from "urban wasteland" (leftovers).

Sometimes, public property (housing) will be sold and the new owner might
treat the public spaces around them differently (privatization of these
spaces).
